EDUCATION
We have a full time teacher, which enables us to deliver the full range of the National Curriculum for our in-house educational facility.
Education is an integral part of our approach to young people. The acquisition of academic competence in its widest form is seen as being of critical importance for young people since it is the yardstick by which they evaluate themselves in relation to their peers. Additionally, the educational context can free a young person from habitual or stereotyped behaviours, which may be displayed in a family or residential situation. Education is the link between compensatory experiences of Seaview and the graduation to family, school or workplace.
Where a young person referred to Seaview is within compulsory school age, we will continue their education through collaboration with their previous school. An assessment of a young person's situation and abilities can be made and assistance given with specific educational difficulties. Liaison and advice are additional services offered by the teaching staff at Seaview to help return a young person to a mainstream educational situation as soon as is practicable, this may entail them still residing with us.
Each young person's bedroom has a desk for private study. Access to computers is available out of school hours. We also ensure a comprehensive programme of careers guidance is available in conjunction with Connexions. |
